This is the cabinet planning page
Planning is the most important aspect of cabinet construction. You need
to decide how exactly your cabinet will look, where it will be in your
house (make sure it fits through doors) and other things. Below is a
drawing that shows the insides of the cabinet with some major components.

Important things to consider:
- How tall are you? Make sure that the control panel top is at a comfortable
level for you. You may be spending a lot of hours standing in front
of the cabinet :-)
- How much space do you have? Don't build a huge four-player cabinet
if you have one small corner of your bedroom to put it in. Also, be
aware of the width of any doors the cab will have to pass through.
- What will you use for a monitor? Nothing looks lamer (IMO) than a
32" wide cabinet with a 15" monitor in it. If you're using a
TV, remember that a 25" TV is actually deeper than it is
wide/tall, so plan accordingly.
- Do you "need" all the bells and whistles? If you want something relatively
similar to actual arcade cabinets, you'll want to allow for a marquee
(the lighted panel above the monitor) and coin door.
- How many players will play at once? Don't build a single-control
cab if you and your wife/best friend (for some lucky ones of us this
is the same person) will play together frequently. Don't build a four-player
cab if you will play it mostly alone...
On to measuring and designing the cabinet.
